Found in a variety of wetland environments, these sociable ducks have a dark body with a lighter head and green colouring that shows through their underwing. They are mainly vegetarian, feeding on the seeds of aquatic plants and supplementing this with small crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic insects. The pacific black duck is abundant throughout Australia and not considered a threatened species.
