Status: Not threatened or endangered.

They are robust medium sized black and white birds and are described as one of Australia’s most accomplished song birds – with a large array of vocalizations. Magpies are omnivores but the bulk of their diet is made up of invertebrates. Males and females of these birds are similar in appearance but can be differentiated by differences in back markings. During breeding season in springtime, males of the species can become aggressive and swooping is common when their nests are approached. These birds are common, widespread and not considered endangered.
